Weekly update 12

This week I learned that I need to dial back on potentially inflammatory statements in my writing. I sent a draft manuscript to my adviser last week, and he came back with too many places where I either couldnt back up my claims or I was (unintentionally) making statements that might offend some. When your dissertation is on one of the most volatile environmental issues currently around, you need to be extra careful that you only piss off a targeted group. In my case, I dont want to annoy anyone because I am taking the position of middle-ground between strict conservation values and bottom-line shale gas development.
I was also reminded that writing manuscripts is hard, and not fun, and takes more time than science. Why is that? Doesnt that seem wrong?
